Ten Facts About the Bible
  1. The Bible is God's Word. It is divided into two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament.
  2. The Old Testament tells about before Jesus came. The New Testament tells about Jesus and what happened after Jesus.
  3. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. The New Testament was originally written in Greek.
  4. As originally written in Hebrew and Greek, the Bible was written in all capital letters with no spaces between the words. Spaces between the words and lower case letters were added later.
  5. The Bible is a collection of 66 books (the Roman Catholic Bible has 73 books). The first book of the Bible is Genesis, the second book Exodus, the third book Leviticus, and so on. The last book of the Bible is the Revelation of John.
  6. The first five books of the Bible were written around 1400 BC. The last book of the Bible, Revelation, was written around 95 AD. This means the Bible was written over about 1,500 years.
  7. The Bible was divided into chapters by Cardinal Hugo de Saint Caro in AD 1238.
  8. The Bible was divided into verses by Robertus Stephanus in 1551, after the invention of printing presses.
  9. More Bibles are sold and given away every day than any other book.
  10. The Bible is excluded from the New York Times best seller list because, if it were included, it would continually be the New York Times #1 best seller.
